Flionis for renewal with AEK: “It goes without saying that I will say ” yes ””

His new multi-year (until 2025) contract with AEK signed on Friday (18/3) o Dimitris Flionis. The Greek guard gave his first statements after this development, characterizing his agreement as self-evident, while he also stood by his bond with the “yellow-blacks”.

-How did the new agreement with the “Queen” come about? «To be completely honest, it was a surprise for me. However, it was a great honor after just six months of being on the team to get this offer to extend my contract».

Was it an easy decision to say “yes”? «I told you before. It was very honorable what happened to me. It was obvious that I would say “yes”. I was positive from the first moment the proposal was made to me».

-The environment in AEK, despite the unprecedented misfortunes, showed from an early age that it “suits” you. Is not that right; «Absolutely. From the first day I experienced this warmth throughout my body. That’s why I told you, that everything was calm and came perfectly».

– Essentially you signed a “multi-year” contract. Do you think that you have paved the way for the pleasant future? «I wish. Look to see. I believe that there are players, and especially Greek players, who can continue in the coming years. I know that the organization will focus on this process in the coming months. With my current teammates we have excellent chemistry between us. All this gives me an extra incentive to continue in the future, with my primary goal to improve and of course to offer AEK».

-Are you considered one of the most improved players of the current season, to have health, however, with what will you be happy to improve even in the coming years? «I am never completely satisfied in the first place, because that is how I am as a character. I want to work and strive for the best. And I want to work hard and constantly. To have health I will never stop. I also believe, however, that I am constantly improving. But there are several areas in my game that I need to develop».

-In a difficult period for AEK, where you fight for everyday life due to misfortunes, did you see so far and sign an extension? «The fact is that we are facing a difficult daily life, due to the problems that have arisen. These misfortunes, however, as oxymoronic as it sounds, made us stubborn. They united us more. They brought us closer. Especially, after the tragedy, after the loss of Stefan, we got together. I do not know if it always looks this way, but we are a family. Both as a team and as an organization. Maybe that’s why we endured. We coexist great characters. This kept us afloat. Next to each other, competitively and extra-competitively».

-What was it that “tied” you emotionally with AEK? «From day one, even though I was changing environment for the first time in my career, everyone on the team, from the caretaker to the President, hugged me. They made me feel that I have been here for years. They made me feel familiar. They made me feel like I was at home».

-You signed a “multi-year” agreement with AEK, but due to circumstances your plans are not far in terms of the match. Correctly; «When we live in a difficult everyday life with so many absences, yes … You can not make plans far away. However, this does not mean that we are not entitled to look far. That we can not dream. I want to believe that everything will go well. It seems contradictory, but it is not the current development. I want to say to our world, that we are building character and identity this year. And we will use the results of this process in the coming years. To go even higher again, as befits AEK».

-Something for an epilogue? «I want to say a big “thank you” for today’s development, to Mr. Angelopoulos and Mr. Hina, to Coach Stefanos Dedas for his trust and support, but also to my teammates».
