The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach will resign as a member of the Olympic Corps following the surrender of the presidential position to his successor in June, as announced Wednesday (26/2) by the ILO.
Bach, Olympic champion in 1976, retires this year after 12 years of service with the delivery of the position to the new president on March 20th, to be delimited on June 23.
“The ILO Executive Council today agreed to accept the resignation of ILO President Thomas Bach as a member of the Commission, with effect after June 23, 2025,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.
The 71 -year -old Bach could stay as a member until the age of 80, having joined the ILO in 1991.
There are seven candidates to succeed Bach in the March 20 vote at the ILO summit in Greece.
He is the head of the world track and field, Sebastian Coch, the Olympic Swimming Olympus Couvendri, who is Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sports, as well as Spanish Juan Antonio Samarank, son of the deceased former president of the ILO.
International Cycling Leader David Laparatien, Prince Fiezal Al Hussein of Jordan, the head of the International Federation of Gymnastics Morinari Watanabe and the multimillionaire Johann Elia, who is in charge of the Elias.
