Current world champion, Brazilian skateboarder Pâmela Rosa, 22, won this Sunday (14) her second Street League title, the World Skateboard.
In Jacksonville, Florida (United States), Pamela scored 21.8 points and beat compatriot Rayssa Leal, who scored 19.2 in the decision and took second place.
Champion in 2019, the Brazilian reached the Tokyo Olympics as the favorite for gold, but failed to reach the final. After being eliminated in the semifinals of the Games, she revealed that she was seriously injured. She decided not to undergo surgery in order to compete at the Worlds and became champion.
This Sunday, the Street League final brought together the entire Olympic podium: Rayssa Leal, who won silver, and the Japanese Momiji Nishiya (who won gold in Tokyo) and Funa Nakayama (bronze but the Olympics).
Both Pamela and Rayssa went to the last stage of the decision, which brings together only the top four of the tournament decision.
In two maneuvers, the current champion managed to turn the scoreboard with the highest score in the competition (8.1) to take the trophy.
In the other two stages of the Street League played so far, Pamela had not done so well: she was fourth in both, held in Salt Lake City and Lake Havasu.
Rayssa had already won them both, respectively in August and October, a performance that saw her reach the final in Jacksonville as leader and favorite.
The Street League has been played since 2010 and, until now, Brazil had already won three world titles.
The first two came in 2015, when Kelvin Hoefler (silver at the Tokyo Olympics) and Letícia Bufoni made the double – the first time there was a women’s title dispute.
Bufoni was left out of the final in the 2021 edition. She attended this Sunday at the Interlagos racetrack to follow the São Paulo F1 GP.
The third world title came precisely with Pamela Rosa, in 2019, the last time the Worlds had been played until this edition (in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was cancelled).
