He fought bravely against an aggressive form of cancer and although until a few months ago he seemed ready to win it, he came back and finally paid for it.

The last battle was short. It was also unequal, even for such a strong and combative presence. Vasso Beskaki is no longer with us. She passed away at the age of 46, defeated by the disease that attacked her and afflicted her. It is a day of great sorrow for the field of Greek basketball and for all of us in the Hellenic Basketball Federation. Most of all, however, it is a huge loss for her own people, her mother Fotini, her sister Athena and her other relatives.
Vasso wrote her own important story as an athlete. She was a member of the great team of Sporting while she offered her services to the National Team of Greece for years, in all age levels and 35 times in the women’s team. The end of her athletic career, however, did not take her away from her beloved basketball.
It became a very important cog in the operation of the EEC, in the office of the National Teams and in the relations with the international federations and FIBA. In recent years she has become a commissioner in international competitions, constantly expanding her areas of involvement in the sport. Winning and constantly what she claimed, with her desire, her abilities and her smile.
Vasso left early and will be missed by many. The condolences to her family can hardly alleviate the pain of loss. Let the soil that will cover it be light. We will always remember her restless spirit, her appetite for life, her wide smile.
