“The Handball Federation of Northern Macedonia sadly informs the public about the incident that happened in yesterday’s match of the EHF European Cup final, in which Northern Macedonia spokesman Alkalid would face the Greek team, AEK, AEK in the SC” Boris Traj
The match was not held, as AEK’s team refused to go down to the field. According to information available to the Federation, the reason for this decision of the guest team is related to the number of Greece fans who traveled to Skopje and despite the fact that 200 tickets for the guest team had been approved, a significant number of fans sought access to the stands.
After more than 30 minutes of uncertainty and waiting, the organizers were forced to postpone the match due to the absence of a team on the pitch. In this way, the athletic spirit and the fair play were seriously violated and the audience and the North -Macedonian handball were deprived of a long -awaited final.
The Handball Federation of Northern Macedonia strongly condemns this behavior, which is contrary to the rules and regulations of the European Handball Federation (EHF). We believe that the non -entry of the AEK handball team into the field is a direct violation of the athletic code and the obligations arising from participation in the event organized under the auspices of EHF.
In this respect, we expect EHF to make a fair decision that will protect the integrity of the event and the fair treatment of clubs that respect the rules.
At the same time, we express our full support to Alkalide, which has shown a maximum athletic spirit and a professional approach. We are convinced that our clubs, fans and all those interested deserve fair and transparent treatment.
