A few days before Eurobasketto be hosted in the SEF 18 to June 29the Artemis Spanou and the Penelope hosted in his studio BWINSPOR FM 94.6 and they talked to Alexander Tsouvela and Maria Zafeiratou.
The team leader and the international playmaker talked about the historical challenge of the Greek team, the goals of the event, and the sacrifices they have made for the sport without regreting it. In detail they talked about:
The feelings they feel by representing the national team:
Penelope Pavlopoulou: “It’s much bigger than ourselves to wear the coat of arms with the coat of arms. You have to perform, you play for a people, you represent a country. You don’t just play for yourself. Especially this year when we will play Eurobasket here in Greece, with the world on our side. It’s a great time for all of us. ”
Artemis Spanou: “Even yesterday when it was a friendly game with Lithuania, listening to the national anthem we shuddered. It is a very great time to become Eurobasket in our country and we are very lucky to live it. ”
The goal of the National Team:
Spanu: “The first goal is ‘Together’, the motto we have in the years we are with Coach Preka. If we do this, the results will come. We want two wins to get through and from there they are all open. ”
Prejudice for women’s basketball:
Pavlopoulou: “The first question they always ask me when they learn that I play basketball is ‘a, just do you?’ The next question is’ how much you will play, you want to have a family ‘etc’.
How they started the basketball and the sacrifices they made:
Spanu: “I was playing a little bit of football initially, but I quickly turned to basketball in Panionios. You definitely need to make sacrifices, but I didn’t see it like that. I liked it. When you get into the field professionally, you have to take care of everything, your diet, your sleep, your fun … You have to want it a lot, to have a goal. If you do not have this passion it is difficult to combine basketball studies. ”
Pavlopoulou: “I started playing football, but I felt and they told me it’s a very boyfriend. I started playing basketball and I was good, so I stayed there. And that was little that was my fun, I didn’t see it as a sacrifice. You need a program and discipline, which is learned. My family, with training, with school, with everything. You have to see how to spend your time, how much time you will be on walks, social … “.
Spanu as a leader
Pavlopoulou: “It’s calm, but inside the court it is transformed, it becomes … a summer.”
Spanu: “You certainly have a responsibility when you are a leader and you act as a model. I have played with great players, such as Maltsi, Kaltsidou and many more abroad, I have gotten elements from all and have put my own character. “
