The words of Omar Elabdellaoui are shocking! The Norwegian right back of Galatasaray and for a number of years of Olympiakos, described the very difficult situation he lived in after the accident that almost deprived him of his sight.
He revealed that he could not see at all and his face was burned, while he claimed that his sister gave him an implant. At the same time, he claimed that now he is fine and counts down to return to competitive action, coming out a winner in the most difficult moment of his life.
In detail, his shocking posting:
“I feel like it’s time to find out what I’ve been up to for the last eleven months. This, without a doubt, was the most difficult moment and the biggest challenge of my life in every way.
When the accident happened, everything was dark for me, I was completely blind and my face was completely burned. Slowly I was regaining my sight in my left eye and after a while I was able to see perfectly from there. My right eye was badly injured and I was blind from there until recently, when I was able to regain my sight.
The road was very long and there were many surgeries. Having burned parts of my eyelid, the first step was to rebuild my eyelids, which was very difficult. Then I had to bring stem cells into my eye, having examined my whole family. My sister matched 100%, which was very lucky for me. Next, we took cells from my sister’s eye and placed them in my eye. This is probably one of the biggest reasons I can see again today with my right eye. Some time ago I had a corneal transplant, which was the last operation I needed and it restored my vision. This is a short description of what I went through. Now I feel very well and the doctors gave me the green light to get in full physical condition and start playing from January. So, my only goal now is to be in the best possible shape and be available for my team and my country.
I would like to thank the whole body of Galatasaray. Their support and faith in me was incredible. Fatih Terim was something of a father figure at this difficult time and he was always by my side. Everyone in the management, the technical team and the medical staff, my teammates, thank you for your help.
To the fans of Galatasaray, you opened your hearts and welcomed me from the first moment. You gave me motivation, courage and helped me with your kind messages. I will never be able to thank you enough, but I will give my best on the field “.
