ITTF successfully completed on Tuesday the inspection of the site where the sport will take place at the Youth 2026 Olympics in Dakar and gives a first picture of this great event.
It happens to be timely, indeed, as in the spirit of the Olympic Games last week in northern Macedonia the 18th European European Youth Olympic Festival (even though it was not a pre -Olympic event) and had a great deal of Greek participation in 11 sports.
However, the interest is lively from countries of each continent for two additional reasons: first because the 4th summer youth Olympic Games were postponed in 2022 due to fear of the consequences of Coronovirus and come back after several years and secondly because it is the first event.
The latter was done in Buenos Aires in 2018 with Yiannis Sgouropoulos’s success to be fifth in simple.
The great sporting event is scheduled for 13 days, from October 31 to November 13, 2026 and the table tennis competition will take place from October 31 to November 5 at the Dakar Exhibition Center.
Overall, 36 sports are expected to take place and the qualification process will be developed in time.
ITTF’s post on the sport at the upcoming Youth Olympic Games and the support it will provide for its success: “ITTF completed a productive visit to Dakar, Senegal, confirming the excellent preparation for the Mohamed Tennis Games at the 20th. Eldawlatly, head of ITF events, enhanced confidence in what it promises to be, that is, an excellent tournament.
The table tennis competition will take place from October 31 to November 5, 2026 at the Dakar Exhibition Center, located just 10 ‘from the Olympic Village of Youth. This proximity provides an important advantage for athletes, minimizing travel time and maximizing the opportunities of rest and preparation.
The short distance allows athletes to return to the village between the sessions and maintain their normal routine – critical factors for young athletes experiencing their first major international tournaments. The ITTF is fully committed to the success of the first Olympic event on the African continent and will provide comprehensive technical support for Dakar 2026’s table tennis match.
A special team of technical races, consisting of a ITFF technical representative and a federation’s professional staff manager will ensure the highest management standards of the event. Particular attention is paid to the experience of the spectators, with plans to integrate Senegal’s cultural elements in the presentation of the Games. Many spectators will experience the experience of high -level table tennis for the first time, creating opportunities for innovative fans involved.
The emphasis on the youth Olympics on education and inspiration provides room for creative presentation that honors both local traditions and Olympic values.
Dakar 2026 is also an important milestone for the development of African table tennis. The young players throughout Epirus now have the inspirational prospect of competing in the youth Olympics in their home country. ITTF’s expanding development project throughout Africa creates clear routes for emerging talents, with current Hopes program participants being able to evolve and compete in Senegal.
ITTF support for Dakar 2026 includes the development of athletes, technical expertise and promoting the development of table tennis across Africa and the world athletic community of youth and, as Epirus enhances the infrastructure of the Table Tennis, Landmark organization.
Preparations will now focus on finalizing the improvements of the venues and operating processes, ensuring that the best new table tennis players in the world will find a racing environment worthy of their talent when they reach Dakar. The countdown to an unforgettable tournament has begun. “
