The recruitment of Sotiris Manolopoulos In place of team manager announced Mykonos. The 38 -year -old former power forward has decided to retire and opens a new chapter in his career with the newcomer to Stoiximan GBL.
The announcement:
“Sotiris Manolopoulos young Team Manager at Mykonos Basketball Club.
Mykonos announces the launch of its partnership with Sotiris Manolopoulos, who assumes the duties of Team Manager ahead of the team’s historic first participation in Stoiximan GBL.
Born on November 16, 1987, the Thessaloniki Veteran has deleted a long and rich parquet route, with high -level performances. In his career, he fought, among other things, in the HANTH, PAOK, AEL, Colossus Rhodes, Peristeri, Kavala, Icarus Chalkida, Trikala, Kymi, Hephaestus Limnos, and had a term abroad with Spanish Mallorca, Palnthia and Palnekia.
He now joins Mykonos, taking over the post Manager’s post for the first time on his basketball journey, thus opening a new chapter in his career. On the occasion of this new beginning, he talks about his presence in the team and the historical challenge in front of her.
What perspective does your collaboration with Mykonos begin in a historic season for the team that will compete for the first time at the Stoiximan GBL, but also for you that you first assume a Team Manager duties?
“It’s a new beginning for me, in a different role, from the … opposite side if we can say so. It’s not been many years since I stopped fighting professionally and I consider a great honor and joy here, in this position. I am ready, I like the challenges and I believed that timing, as well as the circumstances in Mykonos, are ideal to be a member of this historic year. ”
From the information you have collected and from the discussions you have made with the people of the organization, how do you see the Mykonos project that wants to bring something fresh to the big category of Greek basketball?
“There are few days I am actively involved with Mykonos, but I have already seen a very big organization, especially for a newly -starred team. There is a huge effort on the island to be ready for the stadium, which is very important for the whole society of Mykonos. Managing the games from the beginning on the island and on our own stadium will be a big deal. I believe that the venture will go very well, because they are serious people who have shown consistency over the years. They have proven that they are going step by step, without big words. They just want to highlight a different side of the island throughout Greece through basketball. ”
On a personal level, what intrigues you and mobilizes you more in this endeavor?
“I approach her with the mentality that this is a very important opportunity given to me; to return to basketball from a different position. Having lived in the past similar situations, such as Kymi that went up in the big category from the local leagues or with the effort made by Hephaestus Lemnos, I have an experience as a player through such situations and efforts. That’s why I see it as a big personal bet. I have all the desire and the appetite to work hard so that, together, and above all the team, we can achieve our goals. ”
If we can talk about realistic goals, how would you delineate them?
“The point for Mykonos, in its first participation in Stoiximan GBL, is to be competitive. We have to go to play with the game, setting everyday, small goals, so that this set of players, Greeks and foreign, in a newcomer to become a family. All of us around the team must help in this direction. Coach Ziagos has already shown last year how loyal he is to his basketball principles and how much he wants to apply them properly. If we manage to combine realism with ambition and create a family climate, then we can succeed. Because a family group always finds a way to reach its goal. It is an attempt that does not just continue something last year, but it starts from scratch. Proper management is needed, but with the support of the world and the local community, all Myconians can be sure that whatever is to do. And at the end of the season, I think he will be proud and happy about what the team will have done and what he will represent inside the pitch. “
