Anunoby, Brunson lead Knicks to victory over Cavaliers in Browns premiership

by

The New York Knicks started the new era under Mike Brown perfectly, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-111 at Madison Square Garden. With OJ Anunoby and Jaylen Brunson leading the way, the Knicks combined the win with solid performance and an impressive fourth quarter.

Anunoby finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Brunson added 23 points to lead New York to its first win of the year. Karl-Anthony Towns also contributed significantly with 19 points and 11 rebounds, confirming that the Knicks have offensive depth.

Brown’s team led by 17 points in the first half, but the Cavaliers came back strong in the third quarter, thanks to Donovan Mitchell’s 31 points — 21 of which came in a stunning quarter. However, the Knicks responded with a 14-0 run early in the fourth quarter, regaining control and “locking up” the win.

For Cleveland, Evan Mobley scored 22 points and 8 rebounds, but the absences were decisive. The Cavaliers were without Darius Garland and Max Struss, who are recovering from foot surgery, and DeAndre Hunter, who was out with a knee injury.

The Knicks, for their part, were without Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart, but showed consistency and confidence, especially on defense and rebounding.

Mike Brown made a winning debut on the bench after management’s surprise decision to move Tom Thibodeau out despite last year’s run to the Eastern Conference finals — New York’s first since 2000.
