The second edition of the Ubatuba International Surfing Film Festival (Ficsu), which takes place from June 16 to 19, at Praia Vermelha do Norte, will train young audiovisual talents.
Interested young people must apply by April 22 at https://ficsu.com.br/ficsu-formacao/
Founded in 2019, the Festival was created to encourage and foster audiovisual pieces created with inspiration from surfing and the ocean.
Victor Fisch, filmmaker and Master in Screenplays by EICTV de Cuba, is the creator of the festival, who saw in Ubatuba the perfect place. “It is curious that there has not been a festival of this type here until today. It’s as if all the natural beauty were enough,” says Fisch.
About the workshops aimed at 15- and 25-year-olds, Victor explains: “Classes will be held on weekends in the auditorium of the Museu da Vida Marinha, at the Instituto Argonauta. There will be scripting, directing, photography and editing classes with a whole team of professionals residing in the city”.
At the end of the Workshop, young people will have the chance to see their finished productions and at least two of them will be shown during Ficsu.
In addition, one of them will be shown internationally through a partnership with the Portuguese Surf Film festival.
Full moon and festival holiday
With exhibitions standing on the sand, music, gastronomy and other attractions, Ficsu is a full plate for those who enjoy cinema, surfing and the beach.
The documentaries selected by the Festival’s curatorship will be shown on a big screen on the beach. Spectators will then be able to watch the productions, with their feet in the sand, to the sound of waves and moonlight.
As in the first year, 2019, Ficsu predicts nights with a full moon. However, in this edition the Festival takes place in the middle of a holiday, which should move the event even more.
Children, women and sustainability
The Ubatuba Surf Film Festival provides activities for children, as well as conversation circles on topics related to women at sea and sustainability.
Samuel Gabanyi, responsible for partnerships and sustainability at Ficsu, highlights the concern of this edition with sustainable practices.
“One of our biggest concerns this year concerns sustainability. So we will have a partnership with Coco e Cia that will collect the recyclables, and we will also compost all the organic waste generated at the festival”, says Samuel.
Conversation circles about sustainability and joint efforts to clean the beach also complete Ficsu’s agenda of attractions.
Partnership with Portugal
Portuguese Surf Film is a partner of the Ubatuba International Surf Film Festival.
“This year we will have an exchange between the Festivals. So Ficsu will be present there in Portugal. And one of the films produced by young people from the Workshop is also going there”, says Victor.
The Festival takes place under the Rouanet Law, sponsorship from Decatholon and support from Fundart. In addition to partnerships, with Tamar, Instituto Argonauta, Hou and Aproven (Association for the Protection of Praia Vermelha do Norte).
