Gabriel Jesus is the first Brazilian to score four goals in a Premier League game

Gabriel Jesus became the first Brazilian to score four goals in a single Premier League game this Saturday (23). The forward’s inspired afternoon at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium even had an assist for Rodri to score his fifth in a 5-1 win over Watford.

The last time a player of any nationality scored four times in the English league was with Tottenham’s South Korean Heung-min Son in 2020.

Other Brazilians who also play in England, Lucas Moura (Tottenham, in 2019) and Roberto Firmino (Liverpool, in 2019 and 2021), scored three goals in a single match, in addition to players who have already left the Premier League, such as Robinho ( Manchester City, in 2009) and Afonso Alves (Middlesbrough, in 2008).

The first of Jesus’ goals came shortly after the third minute of the game, after a strong and low cross by Zinchenko, which the forward deflected into the goal at the entrance of the small area. A long cross from Kevin De Bruyne found the Brazilian inside the small area to head in and score the second in the 22nd minute.

Watford even rehearsed a reaction soon after, at 27, with a goal from Kamara, but City’s third came at 33 with a shot by Rodri from the edge of the penalty area after killing Gabriel Jesus’ pass in the chest.

By the 8th minute of the second half, the rout was already resolved with the two remaining goals from Jesus, from a penalty, suffered by himself, and another after an exchange of passes between Jack Grealish, Jesus and De Bruyne, which ended with a kick from the Brazilian already within the area.

City lead the Premier League with 80 points, followed closely by Liverpool, with 76, who play this Sunday (24) against Everton.
