The Italian-Dutch football agent Mino Raiola, 54, a well-known figure in football and agent of players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Balotelli, died in Milan. The information was released by his family, this Saturday (30), through a note.

“With infinite sorrow, we share the passing of the most caring and amazing football agent who ever lived. Mino fought to the end with the same strength he put on the negotiating tables to defend our players. As always, Mino made us proud and never realized this,” the message reads. The cause of death was not revealed.

News circulated on Thursday (28) about the death of Raiola, who had been facing serious health problems for a few months. The family called them “fake news” and mocked them. Now, he had to confirm the death.

Raiola was born in southern Italy but grew up in the Netherlands. He was one of the most influential agents in European football. In 2016, he reportedly earned 24 million pounds (£150 million) from the transfer of Paul Pogba, another of his clients, from Juventus to Manchester United. The deal as a whole cost the English club £105m.

His long list of clients included Eerling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund, Gianluigi Donnarummma of Paris Saint-Germain and Marco Verratti, also of the French team. In the 1990s, the prestigious Dutch striker Dennis Bergkamp was a client of his.

Some of the athletes managed by Raiola and clubs with which he had a relationship mourned his death. “Mino Raiola, the charismatic sports agent, died today. The club, through its president, sends its condolences to his family and loved ones,” PSG published.
