Education is good and everyone likes it.
The lack of it resulted in the removal of a Brazilian player from the first team of one of the great French clubs, Lyon.
Defender Marcelo, 34, who started his career at Santos and before arriving in France played for Polish (Wisla Kraków), Dutch (PSV), German (Hannover) and Turkish (Besiktas) football, played his last match for the A team of Lyon in August 2021.
At the time, it was reported that the reason he left the cast was “inappropriate behavior”, and that’s it. Marcelo went on to play for Lyon B, in the French fourth division.
Now, after several months and with Marcelo at another club (Bordeaux), the newspaper L’Équipe returned to the subject and exposed what would have been such inappropriate conduct by the athlete.
Marcelo blew out gas – in popular parlance, “farted” –, in high decibels, in the locker room after a 3-0 defeat to Angers, close to teammates and the coaching staff, and laughed at the situation.
Although some colleagues shared the Brazilian’s laughter, the shirt 6’s attitude displeased Dutch coach Peter Bosz and Juninho Pernambucano, former Lyon star and current director of football at the club.
Marcelo’s moment of flatulence left an even worse impression, according to ESPN, because it occurred during the speech of the team’s captain, Léo Dubois, to try to revive the team’s spirits after the rout suffered at Raymond Kopa Stadium.
Joking, whether in good or bad taste, there is a time, and that was a bad time. As an aggravating factor, Marcelo had scored an own goal in the match.
The American TV network added, in a text signed by journalist Julien Laurens, that Marcelo’s farts followed by laughter in the locker rooms had already occurred before.
The defender, who played for Lyon since 2017 and until the outbreak of this case was a starter, had his contract terminated in January. His commitment to Bordeaux, last placed in the French Championship, runs until June.
Marcelo has in his curriculum two titles in the Turkish Championship, one in the Polish Championship, one in the Paulista Championship, one in the Dutch Cup and one in the Dutch Supercup. He never defended the Brazilian team.
