Facebook and Instagram are experiencing a mysterious shutdown affecting users across the UK.

The report began around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday (May 7) due to users having difficulty accessing the desktop version of the social network.

Instead of the normal home page, I get an error message when I try to log in to the main Facebook site.

“We are working on it and will fix it as soon as possible,” the statement said.

I was able to confirm that there is currently a problem accessing the main Facebook desktop site.

Both Facebook and Instagram belong to Meta, as does WhatsApp. Some users say there is a problem, but I can’t confirm it.

DownDetector, a website that monitors popular site shutdowns, peaked when people logged their problems.

London, Birmingham and Manchester were the most affected, according to DownDetector.

According to this site, 71% of the issues were related to desktop sites and 25% had issues loading the app.

Others wrote on Twitter to check the news.

Facebook has yet to comment on the reason for the shutdown, but it doesn’t appear to have influenced the social media giant’s smartphone app.

iOS and Android users claim that Facebook works fine.

This is the latest closure affecting the metaplatform.

On November 3, Meta Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger were shut down for hours around the world.
