Facebook owner Meta is cutting consumer versions of video calls and streaming devices on the portal.
Mark Zuckerberg’s tech giant, renamed Meta last year, no longer makes portal devices.
Meta will continue to sell current mobile models in stock, providing long-term support to existing users, but with a focus on future versions of commercial applications.
The portal did not show any competition with Amazon or Google, but became popular among companies due to its pandemic as a tool to improve collaboration between employees at home.
Therefore, it makes sense for companies to redistribute smart display devices specifically for their business.
Meta reportedly sold 600,000 portal devices in 2020 and 800,000 in 2021 as companies looked for solutions to make it easier to communicate with remote workers.
It is not clear how the business portal differs from the consumer portal.
Facebook introduced a portal device in 2018, calling it the “future of video calls.” Last year, the company announced two new versions of the device, Portal Go and Portal+.
In addition to shutting down the consumer portal, Meta has also stopped developing dual-camera smartwatches to support the development of other mobile devices.
