Pentagon to form new group to investigate UFOs

by

The United States Department of Defense said late on Tuesday (23) that it would create a new group to investigate reports of the presence of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in restricted airspace.

The group’s formation comes after the government released, in June, a report that includes 144 observations of these objects, according to which it lacks enough data to determine the nature of the mysterious flying objects.

The new group, called the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group, will be led by the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, the director of state — highest cadre of officials in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence .

Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said in another statement that the presence of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) in restricted airspace poses a potential in-flight safety risk to aircraft crews and raises potential concerns about National security.

The new group, which will succeed the US Navy’s Unidentified Air Phenomena Task Force, will work to detect, identify and assign objects, and assess and mitigate any associated threats, the Pentagon said.

The US military has spent decades rejecting, debunking and discrediting observations of unidentified flying objects and “flying saucers” since the 1940s.
