This Saturday (25th) the opening of the new Science Park of the Butantan Institute, located in the west of the city of São Paulo, will be held. Occupying 725 thousand square meters of green area, the cultural complex will have attractions such as the Serpentarium, which houses the institution’s snakes, and the Biological Museum.
The Butantan collection can be visited by people of all ages. In all, 22 attractions are planned in the park, which will be fully available from the 5th of July this year.
One of the main objectives of the cultural complex is to inspire interest and curiosity in science through educational, environmental and leisure activities. In the space, visitors will still be able to walk through gardens and contemplate a water mirror.
“Butantan is one of the world’s great centers for the production of vaccines and strategic immunobiologicals for public health and, with this park, it consolidates itself as an important center for scientific-cultural diffusion, at the height of its rich history and representativeness for the public health of the Brazil”, says the doctor and secretary of Science, Research and Development in Health of São Paulo, David Uip.
For the month of July, a special vacation program with scientific activities, demonstration of snake venom extraction and trails through the forest paths of Butantan is being prepared.
