Amazon will raise the cost of core subscriptions for its UK customers next month, the retail giants said.
The added value of core delivery and streaming services is due to “inflation and rising operating costs.”
Prime subscriptions currently offer unlimited free shipping from Amazon’s website, as well as streaming entertainment and live sports through Prime services.
Amazon announced that it will raise the price of new customer premiums from £7.99 per month to £8.99 from September 15 or their customers’ next renewal date.
UK annual membership will increase from £79 to £95.
A company spokeswoman said: “Prime offers the best shopping and entertainment and continues to get better every year.
It increased the number of products available for unlimited high-speed delivery and recently added ultra-fast fresh food delivery, significantly expanding high-quality digital entertainment such as TV, movies, music, games, books, etc.
“In the UK, we will be changing the premium price due to rising inflation and rising operating costs.”
Amazon has been spending billions of pounds on its streaming business in recent years with original series like The Boys and The Terminal List.
In September, Prime Video Platform will launch the series “The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power”. Its rights and production costs are around 750 million pounds sterling.
The company has also invested millions of dollars in sports rights, securing the right to watch Champions League matches from 2024 earlier this month and adding that right to 20 Premier League matches each season.
The main price increase is the first service since 2014.
A few months after Netflix increased its base and standard plans by £1 a month, the premium plan increased by £2 just 18 months after the previous increase.
