The main goal is for end users to have access to internet connectivity of at least 100 Mbps, with the possibility of upgrading to Gigabit speeds.
Simpler and the faster it becomes fiber optic network installation and expansion processwith specific conditions regarding the public space.
With the joint ministerial decision signed by the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Theodoris Livaniosand the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Nikos Tagarasaccelerates the development of ultra-high-speed broadband networks and at the same time, respect for public space and the planning of local government projects throughout the country is ensured.
In more detail, the relevant joint ministerial decision specifies:
• the technique and location of excavation for the implementation of the low nuisance projects, with the maximum allowable dimensions, ensuring sufficient free width on sidewalks, where the installation of cabins is planned.
• the maximum overall permissible time duration of low nuisance projects, as well as the maximum daily time duration of works.
• the roads, according to the speed limits, in which the implementation of a project can be considered of low nuisance.
• the obligation to predict, in every new optical fiber installation project, the necessary sections on the road surface, in order to ensure from the outset the possibility of connection for all the buildings located in the installation area.
• The process of submitting supporting documents and transit fees.
• The timely coordination of the works with the planned road construction projects of municipalities and regions.
This is a decision that contributes to the achievement of the European goals for Digital Transformation, with which, after all, the National Broadband Plan of our country is aligned, in terms of increasing the infrastructure of ultra-high-bandwidth networks. It is the main goal end users’ access to internet connectivity of at least 100 Mbps;upgradeable to Gigabit speeds.
Those electronic communications projects that meet the terms and conditions reflected in this decision are characterized as low nuisance, i.e. local and not significant impact on the environment and are implemented based on the simplest procedure described in it. These are projects that do not significantly disturb the cohesion of the road surface and the traffic of vehicles, as they involve excavations of small cross-section and shallow depth and installations of above-ground cabins.
