Bolsonaro debuts in the metaverse in a meeting with assistants; watch video

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) participated in a meeting in the metaverse alongside the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, and the president of Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency), Carlos Manuel Baigorri. The representative’s debut in this type of technology was shared on social networks this Friday (5).

Faria and Baigorri attended the meeting directly from the technology hub of Silicon Valley, California (USA). “Everyone was impressed with what the government has done in terms of innovation in recent years. […] First time that a President of the Republic holds a meeting in the metaverse”, says the Minister of Communications in the video.

Wearing virtual reality glasses, Bolsonaro took the opportunity to extol the video game sector in Brazil and gave a nod to young people and women, groups that register high rejection of the president, according to polls.

“Since the beginning of our government we have lowered, practically zeroed [impostos], various equipment used by ‘gamers’ in Brazil. We know that the number of people who play games in Brazil and in the world is something fantastic, especially young people, among young people, more and more women”, said the president at the meeting.

What is metaverse?

Basically, metaverse is a concept that mixes augmented reality and virtual environments. It can be understood as an experience in a virtual space, but with influences from real life in this universe.

Experts say that in the near future, people will be in this “world” of the internet interacting as if they were “inside” it. That is, we will have virtual avatars that will be able to talk, work, have a social life with friends and family, and material goods in an online universe.

As it is a virtual environment, accessing it requires some technologies such as virtual reality glasses.
