Documentarian João Moreira Salles met, on Tuesday (9), with former minister Aloizio Mercadante, president of the Perseu Abramo Foundation and coordinator of the government program of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
The two talked about a future partnership between Instituto Serrapilheira, an organization that finances science projects in Brazil and was founded by João Moreira Salles, and the Brazilian state.
Mercadante said he believes it is essential that collaborations be signed between the Institute, the CNPQ (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and Capes (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) for the creation of a system of scholarships that privilege research of excellence and that offers security to researchers.
They also talked about projects to finance research focused on the Amazon, including with the participation of international funds. New conversations must be held.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Perseu Abramo Foundation, in São Paulo.
