The research team of the Physical Geography Laboratory and its collaborators edited the modern and up-to-date digital guide of the application
New digital applications and tools that significantly contribute to the correct information of residents and tourists about the geological history of the Santorini volcano, were developed by GEOTHIRA M.A.E., a municipal enterprise of the Municipality of Thira, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Physical Geography of Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA).
What stands out is the original offline digital application for mobile phones, called “Santorini Volcano app”, regarding the Geopark of Nea Kameni, which upgrades the experience of visitors to the craters of the volcano. The mobile application, which is compatible with Android and iOS (Apple) devices, combines guided tours and interactivity.
The research team of the Laboratory of Physical Geography (EPGA) and its collaborators, led by Associate Professor of Law Paraskevi, edited the modern and updated digital guide of the application, which scientifically highlights the walking route in Nea Kameni, focusing on five points of interest, highlighting the geological history of volcanic eruptions.
Users have the opportunity to browse, at the same time or not with their tour of the craters, through visual material accompanied by scientifically documented information about the evolution and volcanic activity of Santorini. In addition, information is given on the most important attractions of the island, which are of geocultural interest.
At the same time, the new website about the volcano www.santorinivolcano.gr is in operation, while a new easy-to-use information sheet with high-quality scientific and visual content about the geological history of Palaia and Nea Kameni has also been released. The upgrade of the services provided by GEOTHIRA M.A.E. will continue in the future.
