New historic achievement by James Webb – Photographed an exoplanet for the first time

by

NASA’s space telescope has given us unique images once again. He managed to photograph a planet located 385 light years away from Earth

The impressive images coming from the space telescope James Webb they succeed one another.

This time her telescope NASA achieved something unique, managing to photograph for first time a planet outside our solar systemor commonly an exoplanet.

The mass of the planet seen in the image is estimated to be six to 12 times that of Jupiter. It is called HIP 65426 b and is about 15 to 20 million years old. It is also located approx 385 light years away from Earth.

In fact, we distinguish it in four different bands of infrared light as obtained by Webb’s different instruments. Webb “sees” the universe in infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye — making it the perfect space observatory to reveal more details about distant worlds.

“This image is a huge breakthrough, not only for Webb but for astronomy in general,” Sasha Hinckley, associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, said in a statement.

“Getting this image was like searching for space treasure,” said Aarynn Carter, chief imagery analyst and postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. “At first all I could see was light from the star, but with careful image processing I was able to remove that light and reveal the planet.”
