GEETHA acquired a new Space Department – What will it include

The General Staff of National Defense (GEETHA) announced the creation of a new Space Directorate that replaced the C5 Directorate. As announced, the new Directorate was formed in accordance with a decision of the Council of Chiefs of General Staff.

It was also announced that the former Directorates of Communications (C4) and Informatics (C5) of GEETHA were merged into a single C4 Directorate of Communications-Informatics.

The newly established Space Directorate is the competent executive body for issues related to space and related technologies.

Recommends, adds to the announcement, the advisory body of the Chief of General Staff for the organization and operational support of the needs of the National Defense in this field, as well as for the planning, organization and conduct of cross-sectoral operations and exercises in national, allied and European context.

With the creation of the new body, the optimization of the utilization of the information dimension of the business theater is achieved with the use of telecommunication satellites, in order to quickly gather information and drastically reduce the decision-making time, as pointed out in the announcement of GEETHA.

Also, with the creation of the new Space Directorate, the improvement of the cooperation with specialized bodies is achieved, in order to acquire the necessary experience, know-how and specialization, as well as the necessary coordination with all the co-responsible bodies to ensure the national aspirations in this distinct business. field (Space Operational Domain).

Regarding the integration of the Communications and Informatics bodies in one address (GEETHA / C4), it is emphasized that it aims at their unified treatment in the context of their extensive relevance and the practice followed internationally in the field of Communication & Information Systems (CIS).

The new Directorate is responsible for the unified support of the operational needs of the Armed Forces and for the development and integrated operation of all their networks in the information environment. It is an advisory body of the head of GEETHA on issues of planning and training of Communications-Informatics policy and collaborates with universities and Research and Technology Centers, while participating in national and international research programs for the development of innovative solutions, adapted to business needs.

The creation of a new Space Directorate and the unification of the former Directorates of Communications and Informatics of GEETHA ensures the interoperability and synergy of the Armed Forces in the integrated information environment and the upgraded exploitation of the fields of space and Communications-Informatics, in accordance with international Allied and European standards.

As part of the ongoing effort to improve the operation of GEETHA, unity of effort and management is achieved, saving resources, economies of scale, more efficient use of staff and resources, strengthening cross-sectoral decision-making and increasing the effectiveness of the management and control system. -among other things- improves and upgrades both national and international collaborations and synergies with friends, partners and allies of our country, concludes the announcement of GEETHA.
