The Greek National Robotics Team FIRST Global Challenge Team Greece won the Bronze Medal XPRIZE Innovation Award in the Project among 164 countries in Geneva where the Olympiad was organized October 13-16, 2022 on the subject of “Carbon Capture”. The prize is awarded to the teams that have developed innovative solutions to combat climate change within the framework of the 2022 New Technology Experience: Carbon Countermeasures.

The FIRST GLOBAL Challenge Robotics Olympiad is a global robotics, science, innovation and technology event, in which national teams from 191 countries participate with children aged 16-18 years. The competent body for Greece is the Educational Organization Eduact – ACTION FOR EDUCATION. Official Supporter of the team is the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia, Golden Sponsors are the companies KLEEMANN, Hellinikon Chryssos, TITAN and Major Sponsor is the company Deloitte and DIOS.

According to the theme of the Olympiad, the teams are asked to investigate the causes and effects of CO2 in the atmosphere, human activities, climate change, as well as propose innovative solutions that will improve the lives of the local and global community. In this context, the team created the Aethra Project by combining in an innovative system the heat pumps and cooling systems used by large hotel units, reducing electricity consumption and consequently the production of carbon dioxide.

The Greek National Robotics Team FIRST GLOBAL 2022 was represented in the Olympiad by 5 high school students and 3 additional members supported the Greek participation. It consists of 40 high school and high school students from all over Greece aged 14-18 years old, who were selected based on their knowledge of programming and robotics, their interest in science and finally their experience from participating in respective national and global competitions. events.
