Elon Musk says Twitter will review user verification process

by

Twitter will review its user verification process, Elon Musk said in a tweet Sunday, just days after taking over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.

“The entire verification process is being overhauled right now,” Musk said, without elaborating.

Twitter is considering charging for the coveted blue tag that verifies the account holder’s identity, the technology newsletter Platformer said on Sunday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

Under the proposal, users would have to sign up for Twitter Blue for $4.99 a month or lose their “verified” badges, according to the report.

Musk hasn’t made a final decision and the project may still be scrapped, but according to Platformer, verification is likely to become part of Twitter Blue.

Twitter Blue launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, which offers “exclusive access to premium features” for a monthly subscription, including the option to edit tweets.

Separately, The Verge reported on Sunday that the social network will raise the price of a Twitter Blue subscription from $4.99 a month to $19.99 a month, citing internal company correspondence.
