VPN encrypts, and thus hides your internet visits from… prying eyes. However, you can’t use Google’s version to access content from other regions like you can with some other VPNs, but it will help if you’re worried about exposing your IP address (vulnerable to tracking) or being safe using a public spot access (hot spot).

Google’s version of VPN requires at least the program 2TB Google One of $10 per month, although you can share access with up to five other people. Desktop support is available in all 22 countries where the service is available, including the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK and much of Europe. You’ll need at least macOS Big Sur or Windows 10. There’s one difference, though: while the Mac app works for both x86 processors and ARM users, the Windows app doesn’t support 32-bit or ARM systems. You’ll have to look elsewhere if you want to secure your ARM-powered Surface Pro.

A Google One subscription unlocks access to more cloud storage, automatic backups and discounts on the Google Store, among other things.
