Elon Musk published a poll on Twitter this Sunday night (18) asking if he should leave the command of the social network. “I will respect the results,” he said.
The survey is on air until the morning of this Monday (19). In 40 minutes of voting, it obtained 2.6 million votes, and “yes” won with 57.1%.
“As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, you might get it,” tweeted the owner of the social network minutes later.
Also on Sunday, Twitter said it will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other platforms and content that contain links or usernames. The platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.
The policy change follows a series of actions since Musk, also CEO of Tesla, bought the company.
The billionaire, who took control of the social network at the end of October for US$ 44 billion, dismissed part of the company’s top management and thousands of employees, and is now evaluating how much to charge for the platform’s subscription service, Twitter Blue.
On Saturday (17), Elon Musk reactivated the accounts of several journalists who were suspended because of a controversy over the publication of public data about the businessman’s plane.
The move came after the suspensions drew sharp criticism from government officials, advocacy groups and news organizations around the world, with some saying Twitter was endangering press freedom.
