Google: Earthquake Early Warning App on Android – How to Activate – Video

by

Google’s specific system, called “Earthquake Now,” has begun piloting in particularly earthquake-prone California

A new system of early information to citizens about earthquakes, brought by Google to users of operating system mobile phones Android. This is a notification, even before the seismic vibration occurs.

Google, believing that an early warning can help people prepare for the earthquake, used the Android platform, which is installed on the majority of mobile phones, to provide people with timely and useful information.

Google’s specific system, named “Earthquake Now”, began operating as a pilot in the particularly seismic region of California, in the United States. The application was launched in the summer of 2020 and aims to give immediate security information to the residents of an area within seconds.
Even a few seconds before an earthquake is felt can give time to the citizen to find a safe place of protection.

The operation of the application

The mobile device “detects” a vibration with characteristics reminiscent of an earthquake. At that moment, it sends the signal to the company’s special server while “connecting” with the relative geographic location of the signal.

The server combines all the signals from many different mobile phones in the wider area to determine if seismic shaking does occur.

How to activate the application

Google’s Earthquake Now app, it is not automatically activated on our devices. To activate it we must follow the following steps:

  • Open the device Settings
  • We choose Safety and Emergency – Earthquake Alerts. If you don’t find Safety and Emergency, select Advanced Location – Earthquake Alerts
