“Grandma, grandpa press enter!”: The elderly are trained in e-commerce and e-banking

by

The initiative, which aimed to engage as many citizens as possible in the online community, completed its first cycle and included a total of 40 seminars attended by 380 people.

The interest of the elderly in their education in e-commerce, transactions and the use of tablets and mobile phones emerges from the questionnaires filled in by the participants, men and women, over 65 years old, in the context of the Digital Literacy program of the Central Macedonia Region and the “Noesis”, titled “Grandma, Grandpa press enter!”

As it became known, those who participated in the program declared that they really enjoyed the courses and found both the program, its structure and organization, as well as the instructor, to be excellent.

The vast majority of them called for “more education and digital literacy” as, as they said, the program needs to be expanded and expanded with even more hours, in more subjects.

After all, according to the conclusions reached during the program, a large part of the trainees had, before the start of the program, very little or minimal contact with digital technologies and the use of digital media (use of PCs, smart mobile phones, tablets). Despite this, their willingness to be informed and trained in new technologies was very high, mainly, as they said, “so that they can communicate with their children and grandchildren, but also not to be inconvenienced by switching to public services.”

Of particular interest within the program were the courses held with the participation of members of different ages of the same family. For example, a grandmother attended the lesson with her granddaughter, or an uncle with his nieces. The aim of this initiative was to bring different ages into contact to understand the needs, deficiencies, problems, desires, which arise in every period of life.

The initiative, which aimed to engage as many citizens as possible in the online community, completed its first cycle and included a total of 40 seminars attended by 380 people.

The courses were developed in such a way that even users who are not familiar with computers and the internet, can navigate the e-gov online portal to issue an affidavit, a power of attorney, activate the immaterial prescription feature, to issue a census certificate or notarial acts. The possibility of video conferencing with a KEP representative (My KEPLive) was also introduced, so that the use of electronic procedures becomes even more accessible.
