Three Algerian soldiers were killed when the helicopter they were on crashed during a training mission 200 kilometers southwest of Algiers, the North African country’s defense ministry said.

The Russian-made MI-71 military helicopter crashed near the El Ataf site of Ain Defla province, in northern Algeria. Among the three victims is a colonel, according to the Algerian defense ministry.

The Chief of the National Defense General Staff, General Said Sengriha, ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

In December 2020, three military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash in Tipaza province, near Algiers.
