US sues Google over alleged abuse of advertising market dominance

by

The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Alphabet Inc’s Google on Tuesday, saying the company abused its dominance of the digital advertising market.

“Google used anti-competitive, exclusionary and illegal means to eliminate or severely diminish any threat to its dominance over digital advertising technologies,” the US government said in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit marks the second federal antitrust complaint filed against Google. The Justice Department lawsuit filed against Google in 2020 focuses on a monopoly on internet searches and is due to go to trial in September.

Eight US federal units joined the process this Tuesday, including the state that is home to Google’s headquarters, California.
