Three people were killed in a shooting at a convenience store in Yakima, Washington, early Tuesday, police said, and the alleged shooter is being sought and is considered armed and dangerous.

Police were called about 3:30 a.m. local time when three people, who have not been identified, were found dead, Chief Matt Murray told reporters. Two victims were shot inside the store in what authorities said appeared to be a random act of violence, and a third was shot outside.

The suspect has been identified as Jarid Haddock, a 21-year-old resident of Yakima County. The motive is still unclear, authorities said while releasing a photo of the suspect saying, “Do not approach him, he is possibly armed and dangerous.

“It appears to be an accidental situation. There was no apparent conflict between the parties,” Murray said. “As soon as the man entered, he started shooting.”

After opening fire in the store, the suspect ran across the street and fired into a vehicle, forcing the driver to move into the passenger seat. The suspect stole the car and fled, police said.

The driver’s condition is unknown.

Authorities collected security footage and eyewitness accounts from the scene as part of the investigation. The police department posted a photo on social media of a man wearing all black, including a hat, hoodie and jeans, and white shoes.

Yakima is a city of about 97,000 in Washington’s Yamika Valley, an agricultural region known for its apple farms and wineries.

The new carnage followed the deadly attacks that shook California in recent days. 48 hours after a gunman killed 11 people at a dance studio in the Los Angeles area, seven more people were killed Monday in a rural area near San Francisco.
