Water vapor discovered in exoplanet atmosphere 150 light-years from Earth

The planet, which is considered relatively close to Earth, was discovered and studied by the American space telescopes Hubble, TESS and Spitzer

The US space agency (NASA) announced that water vapor was detected in the atmosphere of the exoplanet TOI-674b, which is about 150 light-years from Earth, in the constellation of Pump. It is one of the few exoplanets where water in the form of water vapor has been detected to date.

The planet, which is considered relatively close to Earth, was discovered and studied by the American space telescopes Hubble, TESS and Spitzer. It is slightly larger than Poseidon and moves around a relatively cold red dwarf star, less than half the size of the Sun. The exoplanet needs less than two days (its duration of the year) for a complete orbit around its star.

It remains unclear how much water vapor is in its atmosphere, which scientists will try to investigate with further observations, including with the newly developed James Webb Space Telescope, which was recently launched and will “get to work” this year.
