The first and second places among 75 teams from all over the world were won by the two competition teams of the Robotics Academy – FutureLab, which participated in the FIRST LEGO League 2023 World Championship of Robotics Research and Innovation, held June 9-11 in Massachusetts, at the Polytechnic Institute Worcester (Worcester Polytechnic Institute).
With an exciting course during the two-day robotics championship, the “BOB” or “SCRAPS” teams from Thessaloniki succeeded in overturning the predictions, as from the 29th place in the general ranking where they were on the first day after their first attempts, moving up to the next efforts their performance, they managed to reach the final.
In the final of the event, the experience of the five “SCRAPS” world champions faced off against the will, the determination of “BOB”. “SCRAPS” prevailed, while “BOB” with their first appearance in a global event and winning 2nd place in the world laid strong foundations for the following years.
The Greek teams also distinguished themselves in the sub-categories of the competition which aim to reward the teams that excelled in each category. They won the judges’ first prize and the mechanical design second prize for their robot.
The Robotics Academy is a collaboration between the Technoblast of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki “ACTA” and “FutureLab” and offers certified courses in Educational Robotics and New Technologies to children aged 6-16.
