The 2022 Digital Government Awards awarded for the second consecutive year by the Ministry of Digital Governance. The event took place this morning at the “Miltiadis Evert” amphitheater of Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens and was organized by the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance.
The institution aims to reward initiatives and ideas aimed at the extroversion and digital modernization of the Public Administration, in order for the citizen to be served by a friendlier and less bureaucratic state.
In particular, through the institution, effective, innovative and pioneering processes of digitization and simplification of administrative functions are highlighted, as well as actions that support the digital transformation of the country. The distinctions are awarded to executives of the Greek State, to representatives of agencies and officials who have designed or implemented, collectively or individually, innovative and pioneering applications for the digital transformation of public administration and the improvement of the administrative environment in the country.
As the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou stated, “today we have the new bright side of Greece, of the State. The prime minister’s directive-order from the first day was to change all that was bothering and hurting the Greeks in their daily dealings with the State. It’s not just a matter of suffering but of trust.”
In fact, the minister noted that “I hope that in a few years this institution of awards will not exist in a few years in the sense that we no longer need to simplify anything else, that we have done everything and consider our everyday life to be done digitally”. He emphasized that “every day we should be restless and look to find where we are finally hurting the citizen even now. We here are the change that must be made in the public administration, we will eventually achieve even more, easier procedures for the citizens”.
At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis, stated that “it is our great pleasure to organize for the second year in a row, as a ministry, the Digital Governance Awards. It is our responsibility, indeed our privilege, to ensure that Greece remains innovative in this dynamic landscape and as the political leadership of the ministry, together with Dimitris Papastergiou, We pledge to continue working hard to provide solutions to the challenges that appear before us. Today, we shine a spotlight on those visionaries who are not just dreaming, but actively shaping our future.”
For his part, the general secretary of Information Systems and Digital Governance, Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos stated that “today we are honoring 20 groups which, on behalf of the public sector, are making a decisive contribution to the digital transformation of the country, in different sectors. Rewarding their effort is primarily a moral recognition in their career as public servants and is part of the evaluation of the public sector, as defined by the government’s priorities. We have to give them a public “thank you”. The successes of recent years were not a given, but came as a result of the collective work from 2019.”
And the general secretary of Telecommunications and Posts, Konstantinos Karantzalos, referring to the award ceremony, emphasized that “it is extremely honorable for us to award all those who make our own daily lives easier, those who have contributed to the simplification and efficiency of all Government procedures, making our everyday life easier. Congratulations to everyone, your applications and ideas give us significant motivation to work even more intensively to implement the goals of the Ministry of Digital Governance”.
