Opinion – Copo Cheio: Lagunitas enters the world of the metaverse with an NFT auction; understand

The metaverse is among us — not to be confused with the multiverse, or spider-verse, of the Marvel movies. Increasingly popular on social media, the metaverse is a space that can unite the real world with the digital, through virtual or augmented reality.

Even if you don’t have your avatar yet, you can buy virtual land, artwork and other digital products.

Lagunitas beer is now entering this universe, which put digital objects from the musical project Disco de Quintal in a virtual auction. These pieces are called NFTs, or non-fungible tokens. They are signatures that allow you to single out something that was commonplace on the internet, such as memes or tweets.

In November 2021, for example, virtual land was sold in the metaverse for $2.4 million.

In the case of the NFT de Quintal project, by Lagunistas, from this Thursday (3) and until Wednesday (9) four digital artworks are being auctioned: an NFT of the complete backyard and others of individual objects — a bathtub, a battery and a sofa, all associated with the brand.

“Our goal is to show that home environments should always be valued for being cradles of innovations that conquer the public with their relevance, as it was with our brewery in California and the EP recently released with independent artists”, says Lucas Pires Barbosa, manager of brand marketing.

Barbosa says that all the amount raised will be donated to NGOs that are partners of Lagunitas, a California brewery that belongs to the Heineken portfolio and is well known around here for its Indian pale ale.

The auction takes place on the OpenSea website (opensea.io), which specializes in the NFT market — yes, there are already specialized sites in the NFT market.

To appease those who literally need to take the prize, however, Lagunitas will present buyers of any of the digital pieces with a special kit, which includes a personalized (real) t-shirt, stickers and the traditional brand cup. Whoever buys the complete artwork also gets the Disco de Quintal vinyl, which includes songs by Ana Cañas, Dead Fish and Sugar Kane, among others —the album is also available on digital platforms.
