The existence of good quality Internet is also of decisive importance for the attraction of digital nomads, foreign citizens who choose Greece to work and live. According to a recent survey by CEOWorld magazine, Greece ranks third, after Portugal and Spain, among 20 countries in terms of its attractiveness to digital nomads. However, not all research finds the same findings. For example, the research of the British company that provides technological solutions ranks Athens and Thessaloniki as the two worst out of a total of ten European cities for remote workers, while in the relevant ranking the fourth place is occupied by Patras. A parliamentary question to the Ministry of Digital Governance on whether, among other things, the digital transformation of the country has progressed was based on these conclusions of international research.
According to data cited by the National Telecommunications and Posts Commission (EETT), Greece performed better than the European average in overall fixed broadband coverage, both in urban and rural areas, with 99% and 98.1% of of households to be covered respectively, based on research on broadband coverage in Europe in 2022.
