Experts discuss how Artificial Intelligence will affect sexual relationships
The exhibition “The Future of Sex Report” claims that most people will have some form of virtual sex by 2030, and that five years later, they’ll own sex toys that interact with virtual reality sex.
Perhaps the most impressive claim of the report, as “EL PAIS” writes, is that by 2050 robotic sex could surpass human sex!
“Virtual sex with the help of robots (Artificial Intelligence) will compete with human sex, but robots will be expensive”according to the report. “It will be ideal for those people who want to live out their ultimate fantasy without the emotional attachments of real relationships”.
While the film “Her” by Spike Jonze (2013) explored a romance between a man and his virtual personal assistant, ten years earlier, the film “Demolition Man” looked at how technology could play a role in sexual relationships.
In an iconic scene, a character played by Sylvester Stallone has virtual sex with Sandra Bullock. The film is set in the year 2032, in a society where sex has been outlawed. Given the latest trends in sex technology, Marco Brambilla’s film aptly predicted the potential of this type of technology. In fact, according to the ‘2024 Sex Trends’ report, from sex toy brand Lovehoney, Artificial Intelligence that personalizes sexual experiences will be ‘key’.
What is sexting? It’s sending or receiving text messages and photos with sexual content, whether it’s obvious or not disguised.
“Artificial Intelligence has great potential for personalization. It allows us to interpret data and develop individual responses based on sensory information such as body temperature and heart rate to tailor it to the user’s needs. For example, future sex aids will be able to recognize if you’re having an orgasm and, based on your behavior, know whether to increase or decrease its intensity.”explains o Fabian Schmolck, AI Solution Manager at Lovehoney Group and Womanizer. “Currently, we are working on various projects to improve people’s sex lives. For example, we are exploring ways to use AI for personalized product recommendations, personalized enjoyment and educational chatbots to talk about sexuality, which help people explore and understand themselves in new ways.”
Lucía Jiménez, psychologist and sexologist who specializes in couples therapy, points out that AI can also be used as a tool to treat sexual problems and gain confidence.

The BLOOM Chat app was born in response to widespread fatigue with dating apps and dating in general. The app features a virtual chat room that allows users to send sexual messages to bots, which respond with written texts and recordings with personalized voices depending on their responses.
The “stigma” of sex technology
According to consultancy Juniper Research, in 2020, an estimated 35.6 million digital devices were used for pleasure, a number that is set to triple within the next five years. This market is led by Asia, which is expected to remain the strongest driver of the sex technology industry, which will reach approximately 37 million active devices by 2025. Sex technology, however, is still stigmatized . According to experts, this may be due to its controversial use in conversations involving violence, abuse and even pedophilia.
The truth is that experts point out that it is difficult to know how to set the limits, because in reality the imagination is free and there is a very big leap between desire and action…
