James’ father John died in 2017. Some time ago his son had recorded conversations with him and created an AI chatbot based on them, which can answer questions about his father’s life using his own voice of his dead parent to deliver a speech.

In 2019, James used this expertise to build an app and corresponding business called HereafterAI. With this application, anyone can “bring back” a loved one to life, following the same practice. He can record his loved one and create a corresponding chatbot based on it. Images of him can even appear on the smartphone screen while he is talking to them.

In South Korea, DeepBrain AI goes even further. She spends countless hours capturing video, photos, and audio data from the loved one in order to gain as wide a picture as possible of their facial features, voice, and mannerisms.

Then there is the possibility of forming AI that has a 96.5% similarity to a real human, as Michael Jung, CFO of DeepBrain, claims to the BBC.
