Researchers will be able to examine systemic risks and assess risk mitigation measures implemented by online platforms in the EU
The Commission has launched a public consultation on the draft delegated regulation on the access of accredited researchers to online platform data under the Digital Services Act.
Thanks to the Digital Services Act, researchers will for the first time have access to data that will enable them to examine systemic risks and assess risk mitigation measures applied by online platforms in the EU. scientific community will be able to make a decisive contribution to the monitoring and safeguarding of the online environment.
The draft delegated regulation clarifies the procedures through which researchers will be able to access data from very large online platforms and search engines. It also establishes rules on data formats and data documentation requirements. Finally, it provides for the creation of the Data Access Portal under the Digital Services Act, a one-stop service for researchers, data providers and data processing centers that will enable them to exchange information on data access requests . This consultation follows a first call for submissions.
The consultation will run until 26 November 2024. Following public comments, the Commission intends to adopt the rules in the first quarter of 2025.
