This social robot, which is a creation of the University of Macedonia, was found in Parliament and specifically in Special Standing Research and Technology Committee.

The “stick” of children in the autism spectrum

It is a social robot designed and developed by the Lires Lab autism. Margarita, who has artificial intelligence, speaks and her petals move while being the best assistant of a trainer, therapist or doctor trying to approach a child with autism and to help him develop social skills that will be useful to him.

“It’s a tool for professionals. The interaction is easier and so the trainer or therapist can use Margarita as a “bridge” to carry out his training program, the evaluation or diagnosis program, ” Professor at the Department of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia and Director of the Informatics and Robotics Laboratory in Education and Society “Lires”, Nikos Fachandidis.

Through Margarita’s “face” and her different expressions, children can interpret emotions while because of her particular construction, they can sometimes embrace her as a plush game and sometimes put her to “sit” in her chair. According to Mr. Fachandidis, among other things, surveys have been carried out in special schools and the results announced at international conferences and magazines have shown that there was an improvement in children’s social skills and this remained after intervention for a long time.

Margarita also made her appearance at this year’s Beyond 2023 exhibition at the TIF – HELEXPO premises, while she was “born” in the context of 2017 cooperation with the University of Macedonia and the “Laires Lab” with Cactus SA companies and Revival Consulting Services SA

On behalf of the team that gave the “present” to Beyond, Cactus SA CEO Stavros Pantios and Dimitris Angeloudis and Revival President George Antypas added that each member attempts to assist his own side to offer technological solutions to the Greek market and Greek society.
