Meta and Essilorluxottica are planning to release “smart” artificial intelligence glasses under Oakley and Prada brands, according to CNBC.
The participation of Prada and Oakley highlights Meta’s success with the second-generation Ray-Ban glasses released in collaboration with Luxottica in 2023. Prada’s addition marks Meta’s first step towards bringing its Wearable Hardware to more fashion companies.
The CNBC has examined a document stating that the new glasses in collaboration with Luxottica will be aimed at athletes. Meta is aiming for active consumers, after seeing several Ray-Ban glasses use the device to record themselves by playing tennis, skiing and other activities.
The Oakley glasses version can cost about $ 360, as they are more weather-resistant than the corresponding Ray-Ban glasses, according to a person who knows the matter and was not authorized to speak publicly about the upcoming device. The first version of the Oakley Meta glasses will feature similar technology to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses released in 2023.
Luxottica, based in France and Italy, has licensing agreements with more than 150 brands and holds remarkable brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear and Persol.
