Another test flight of one was successfully completed Airbus A380 with fuel oil based on cooking oil.
The beastly aircraft made its first three-hour flight from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse on March 25. Specifically, it was used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)which consists mainly of used cooking oil and fats.
Then, on March 29, the A380 flew another flight with the same fuel from Toulouse to Nice. The flight was made to check the fuel especially during takeoff and landing.
In the last year the Airbus has repeatedly considered the possibility of SAF. Indicatively, in March last year there was a flight with an A350 aircraft and in October with an A319 neo.
The company’s goal is to approve the use of this type of biofuel for utilization in the aviation industry by the end of the decade. At the moment, Airbus planes can operate normally with fuels up to 50% SAF and the rest with traditional kerosene.
“Increasing the use of SAF remains the key gateway for industry to meet its zero-emission target by 2050,” the company said in a statement. Airbus also claims that the aircraft can rely on SAF between 53% and 71% for their total fuel needs. However, although it is already used by many airlines, the widespread adoption of biofuel may be far from today due to the high cost.
It is also worth noting that Airbus intends to launch the first aircraft with zero emissions before 2035.
