A new second supercomputer will be developed in Kozani with the aim of enhancing research and innovation in areas of strategic importance for the country. The new supercomputer will serve artificial intelligence applications (TN) in the critical areas of energy and agri -food.

It is a particularly important infrastructure that will be funded exclusively by national resources and is implemented in the context of the cooperation of Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou, Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanassis and Western Macedonian Regional Governor Giorgos.

The selection of funding from national resources ensures faster implementation and installation of the project, with a total budget of € 30 million, in order to align time with the development of the new national supercomputer “Daedalus” in the Lavrion Technological Cultural Park, as well as with the work of the Green Data Center. It is noted that the initiative will be included under the “umbrella” of the European EUROHPC Common Enterprise, as well as the supercomputer “Daedalus”.

The establishment of the new supercomputer in Western Macedonia with an emphasis on the critical areas of energy and agri -food, is a key initiative in the context of the national strategy for artificial intelligence and the wider government policy to strengthen the Region of Western Macedonia.

The new supercomputer will be a catalyst for the development of an integrated technological ecosystem connecting supercomputers, data centers and AI Factories, enhancing innovation and giving strong impetus to the local economy. At the same time, it will be a core of the development of a new ecosystem of startups and small and medium -sized enterprises around the infrastructure of TN, offering incentives for investment, new jobs and upgrading human resources in northern Greece.

Western Macedonia thus emerges in a strategic hub in the European Network of High Performance Infrastructure Network in the Balkans and Southeast Europe.

The project is implemented under the coordination of EYTITS SA. A body of the Ministry of Digital Governance with the cooperation of the University of Western Macedonia, in full synergy with the national infrastructure “Daedalus” and the Pharos Artificial Intelligence Factory, which are the two main pillars of the national ecosystem.
