Blue Origin announced this Friday (13) that the next flight of its rocket is scheduled for May 20, with six passengers on board. Among them is the first Brazilian space tourist, engineer Victor Correa Hespanha.

The takeoff is scheduled for 8:30 am (10:30 am in Brasília) in the west region of Texas, in the United States. This will be the fifth manned spaceflight by the Jeff Bezos company.

Victor Hespanha, a 28-year-old production engineer, from Minas Gerais, will be the first “cryptonaut” in history.

When he boards Bezos’ company’s New Shepard rocket, he will fulfill a childhood dream with the help of the Crypto Space Agency (CSA), an alliance that aims to combine the technology of the space industry with the financial power of cryptocurrency markets to boost the innovation.

Spain secured its place by acquiring an NFT (non-fungible tolkien) for the first time, in what the CSA described in a note as “a historic moment that begins to reveal the real-life impact” that the web.3 and in particular the NFTs may have “by making space travel accessible to everyday people”.

“I bought [o NFT] thinking about the potential appreciation,” said Hespanha, quoted in the statement. “I never imagined that mine would be drawn.”

Hespanha will be the second Brazilian to travel to space, after the then astronaut Marcos Pontes, in 2006.

In addition to the engineer from Minas Gerais, the flight will carry the first woman born in Mexico, Katya Echazarreta.

Born in Guadalajara 26 years ago, she will become the youngest American to travel to space, thanks to the Space for Humanity-sponsored civilian astronaut program.

His life embodies the American dream of thousands of immigrant families with difficult beginnings. She arrived in the country at the age of seven and the immigration process kept her away from her family for five years.

Blue Origin will transport its customers along the Kármán Line, which marks the beginning of space according to international convention, at an altitude of 100 km. The flight lasts only about ten minutes in total, and the price paid by space tourists has not been disclosed.

Passengers can detach themselves from their seats, float for a few moments in zero gravity, and admire the curvature of the Earth through large windows.

Bezos himself participated in the first manned flight of the New Shepard, in July 2021. Since then, the actor who plays Captain Kirk in the “Star Trek” series, William Shatner, and Laura Shepard Churchley, daughter of the first American, have traveled with the company. to travel to space.
