According to initial reports, at least five people were killed and 21 others were injured, said Mojtaba Khaledi, a spokesman for the National Rescue Service.
At least 80 people were trapped under the rubble, for whom rescue efforts are being made with the help of dogs, according to a regional branch of the Red Crescent.
The building is located on Abadan’s busiest street, where shops, clinics and offices are located, according to state television.
The causes of the collapse are being investigated.
