Italy: Police Investigate RAI Report on Falcone Prosecutor Murder

by

Italian police are investigating the offices of the RAI TV show “Report” in the building of the Italian public radio and television, as well as in the house of one of its journalists on material shown yesterday, Monday, for the Mafia bombing in 1992, during which was killed by the prosecutor Giovanni Falcone, said today the presenter of the show Sigfrido Ranucci.

Yesterday, Monday, was the 30th anniversary of the bombing that killed Falcone, who was investigating the Sicilian Mafia, his wife and three bodyguards near Kapatsi, Sicily.

This investigative journalism show presented evidence that Stefano del Chiae, the leader of the neo-fascist organization Avanguardia Nazionale (AN, National Vanguard), was at the site of the bombing.

Ranucci announced through Facebook that the police of the directorate for dealing with organized crime are conducting investigations “in order to confiscate information regarding the report that was broadcast last night”. “Researchers are also looking for documents and witness statements on mobile phones and computers,” he added.

It is suspected that persons outside Cosa Nostra were also involved in the bombing of Falcone.

Caltanisseta prosecutor Salvatore De Luca clarified that the investigation is not against the journalist, but to confirm the authenticity of the sources.
