Mexican authorities found the bodies of three Honduran migrants on Tuesday, a development that has increased the number of victims of a shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico to six, according to officials.
The bodies of a man, a woman and a three-year-old child, passengers of a boat that sank on Monday, have been recovered, David Esparsa, director of Civil Protection in Agua Dulce, told AFP.
Eleven Central American migrants hoping to reach the United States were aboard the boat, which capsized when it was hit by waves.
The bodies of three other Honduran nationals were found Monday. Four people were rescued by fishermen. Police were still looking for a fourth immigrant yesterday, who remains missing.
According to authorities, the boat sailed across the Tonala River, which flows through the state of Tabasco (south) and reached the Gulf of Mexico, where very strong waves overturned it.
Many immigrants have been moving across this river lately to avoid being caught by Mexican federal police forces.
